Reducing Anger In Your Life

You ultimately create the life you want.

It's true.

Your thoughts create your reality.

This morning I was up before the sun. I was in my bedroom stumbling around in the dark getting ready for my run. I had a thought about turning on the light, but taking those extra five steps over to the light switch just seemed like it would take up too much unnecessary time. So I'm stumbling around and I knock over a plant. Dirt flew everywhere. Behind the bed, on the bed, on the window sill, everywhere.

You would think that this would have frustrated me to no end. But it didn't.

I can tell you for a fact that it would have really made my past self mad.

No anger today though. No way.

Why?

Well, knocking over the plant really only would have been a big deal if I would have made it one. And I didn't need to make it one. Everyone (plant included) was okay. We're all good. Isn't that all that matters?

I took the time to turn on the light, move my bed, clean up the dirt, repot my little friend, and then proceed with my morning. No biggie.

After that little situation I had a great day. Really, really great.

I know that I could have got mad, stormed around, and let it ruin my morning. But why? What's the point?

I wanted to have a good morning, so I made it a good morning.

We are in control of how our days go, for the most part. Sure, there are some very terrible things that can happen to make a day completely suck. But, little trivial things like knocking over a plant, spilling coffee on your pants, or having your dog track muddy footprints all over the clean floor are not things to ruin a day over.

These days I just go with things. Spill dirt all over the place at 5:30 a.m.? Okay, fine. I'll clean up the dirt and be on my way.

Life is full of unexpected moments like this. Some good, some bad. Our reactions to these things can make a world of difference in our lives.

The next time something bad happens think to yourself; is this worth ruining my day over or can I fix this and move on to create a great day? It's up to you to decide. But I can promise you that the second option is always the best one to choose.
